You mean to say “proprietary” software. And your forgot to mention hundreds of businesses supporting Open Source software packages professionally, including SLA and all you desire to yell at somebody. For most basic GIS tasks Qgis and a graphics editor like adobe illustrator are sufficient. This way immense licensing fees can be avoided.
