He really didn&#8217;t have to campaign to regain his second term as president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But a number of issues arose during his era as president. For example, there was a financial crisis and mounting pressure between &#8220;free states&#8221; and &#8220;slave states&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, four new states participated in the election, including <a href=\"https:\/\/gisgeography.com\/illinois-map\/\">Illinois<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/gisgeography.com\/alabama-map\/\">Alabama<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/gisgeography.com\/mississippi-map\/\">Mississippi<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/gisgeography.com\/missouri-map\/\">Missouri<\/a>. After all the votes were counted, James Monroe beat out J.Q.
