shaped like a horseshoe in the North Atlantic Ocean. The country is off the west coast of <a href=\"https:\/\/gisgeography.com\/senegal-map\/\">Senegal<\/a>, Africa about 600 kilometers away. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-17-16-15-font-size\">Cape Verde is also known as <em>Cabo Verde<\/em> because the Portuguese first discovered the uninhabited islands in the 15th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-17-16-15-font-size\">Currently, Cape Verde has one of the highest literacy rates and GDP in all of Africa.
