And it&#8217;s something we have to get better at.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We give you <strong>5 steps<\/strong> to deliver a GIS business case to your organization:<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. How is it being collected?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Put all the puzzle pieces together and you&#8217;re on a journey to empowering people with GIS.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. What processes will be improved using GIS?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Take a step back for a moment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s time for you to <strong>take charge<\/strong> and research how processes can be improved in your organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because why even convert to a GIS, if things are <em>fine as they are<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use a horse and carriage or motorized vehicle to get from point A to B. But the latter is faster and cheaper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The point is this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because at your organization, there might be a better way to do things than their current process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Answer the following questions. How can GIS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Save time and money.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Generate more revenue through automation and speed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide decision support with reliability and precision<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increase communication and collaboration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These are the questions you have to answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some business cases are more expensive than projects. But if you do it right, you&#8217;ll <strong>reap all the rewards<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Efficiency, productivity, quality, and satisfaction. How do you measure the rise in revenue through increased capacity?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;How to Measure Anything&#8221; by Douglas W. Hubbard explains how to put a value on almost anything. This book provides practical advice that can be applied to a variety of scenarios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last but not least:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What&#8217;s the alternative approach? What happens if you <strong><em>&#8216;do nothing&#8217;<\/em><\/strong>?<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. GIS Business Case Delivery &#8211; The Perfect Pitch<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The last step is delivering your GIS business case pitch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Tq0tan49rmc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8216;The Elevator Pitch&#8217; by Sean Wise<\/a> explains to you how to give a 2-minute pitch. Why 2 minutes?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because that&#8217;s how long it takes to go from the lobby to the investors on the top floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elevator pitch is broken down into two key elements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What problem is it that you are trying to solve?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Show the value proposition. How does your solution solve that problem?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And the pitch must meet four key tests:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It must be succinct. After all, it&#8217;s just two minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It must be easy to understand. You can&#8217;t give too much tech talk in an elevator pitch.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It must be greed-inducing. Investors want to make money. And lots of it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It has to be irrefutable. If investors have more questions than answers, you have to go back to the drawing board.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Simplify everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deliver the perfect elevator pitch.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wrapping Things Up<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For those who have GIS systems implemented in their organizations, it&#8217;s been so ingrained that it&#8217;s hard to imagine working without it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, emergency planners need GIS because it helps save lives. But it also helps plan future emergencies and improve preparedness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GIS integrates with remote sensing, programming (automation), and asset management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Align these GIS processes with corporate objectives.
